Belgium

CAMPING

There are some Belgium versions of the “Stellplatz” or “Aires” that we found in our “Stellplatz” book. The ones we found were in the most bizarre places imaginable. We stayed at 2 on the way to Antwerp. One was at a posh horse club. The other was at a Pool and community centre where friends from Antwerp said “All the millionaires live”. They were shocked we stayed in these neighbourhoods and for free.

We wild camped right on the river just south of the centre of Antwerp. A friend told us he always sees motorhomes there. True enough, there they were. We assumed there would be a time limit until we met some belgians who had wild camped there for 2 whole winters in their van. We had a great time there and met lots of amazing people. We joined the masses and cycled everywhere. Uh… also…. the first day we all wore our helmets. We realized soon that we were the only ones in Antwerp with helmets and left them home the next day. Biggest challenges for us during this time was getting rid of trash (use small bags) and dumping our toilet.

FOOD

Fritz – be adventurous and try a few of those interesting sauces.

Waffles – nice and syrupy sweet. Dont get whipped cream on yours, it melts. They are best with nothing added.

Little purple cone sweeties – We have no idea what these are called. We got them at the market. They sold them everywhere. We love them.

CULTURE

Most of our recent experience is about Antwerp. Even tho I did meet Andrew in Brussels over 20 years ago. Aaaah romance. Ahem, anyways, We love Antwerp. We met some amazing people and they all seem to know each other.
