CAMPING

All I’ve got to say is “Aires”. We found a listing of Aires in our German “Stellplatz” book. Look for signs for “Aires de camping cars”. Better than wild camping because you dont have to worry about being moved on. Better than campgrounds because they are cheaper, you experience more of the local culture and you meet more eccentric people. Need I say more.

FOOD

Do I really need to say anything here. They love their food and we love it too.

CULTURE

Before going to France we were told by more people than we care to count, “Oh, the French, they are so rude and refuse to speak English.” So, why would I expect them to speak English with me, I am in their country. If I go around asking people if they speak English they will almost always say no and look at me like I am an arrogant little jerk. Which, to be quite honest, would be true. So this is what I do. I learn as many words as I can in French. Typically my first few words to learn in a new language are – good morning, evening, thank you and SORRY. I try to expand as much as I can, but honestly, try as hard as I do I feel quite pathetic learning languages. So as I stumble around and make a complete idiot of myself and …. humble myself in front of them… many times they will smile politely and start to speak English to me. At such time I will say, in complete honesty and gratitude, “Thank you so much. Your English is so much better than my French.”  Language is power. If I assume others should learn English I am saying to them, “English is better and I am more important than you”. If I humble myself it opens doors.
